Like the indoor garden the rooftop garden is meant to pay homage to the latest inhabitant of P.S. 186 building, nature. It also serves as a space for relaxation for the users of the building, a place to refuel with fresh air surrounded by floral bushes and vertical garden beds on the walls that encase the space. A place of leisure and relaxation the rooftop garden serves as an elevated park, away from the busy streets below. Rooftop gardens are not common in Harlem, it may possibly even be the first to come to the community.
